Indications:
Zyprexa is prescribed to treat the symptoms of such conditions as schizophrenia and manic depression in adult patients and children who are at least 13 years of age.
How to take:
Take Zyprexa exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Zyprexa is taken orally,on a once-a-day schedule with or without food, generally beginning with 5 to 10 mg initially, increasing the dosage to 10-15 mg/day within several days.
Precautions:
Zyprexa can't be used in patients with dementia, as it may cause heart failure, sudden death, or pneumonia in older patients with dementia-related conditions. Don't take Zyprexa if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you hae a history of such conditions as liver diseases, heart diseases, strokes, epilepsy or seizures, diabetes or bowel problems. Your doctor may adjust the dosage if you have one of these conditions.
Side effects:
Serious side effects include irregular heartbeating, high blood sugar (increased thirst, loss of appetite, nausea), problems with vision, speech or concentrating, fever, flu symptoms, changes in personality (unusual behavior, hallucinations). More common side effects include headache, dizziness, feeling drowsy and tired, back pain, stomach pain, nausea and missed menstrual periods.
